Jester Badge — Today
Two Clown Luggage must be opened by the same player in one expedition. Recommended means the mapped count is at least two; it does not guarantee an unlock. Follow the biome order below from bottom to summit, and let the badge hunter open both boxes.

How the Jester badge works
| Badge | Requirement | Reward |
|---|---|---|
| Jester | Open 2 clown luggage in a single expedition | Jester Hat, Jester Outfit |
The badge goes to the player who opens the second box, so in a group, let one person open every clown luggage you find. It was reduced from three boxes to two in patch 2.02.a, and the developers have said they may rework it later.
Like all badges, it cannot be earned in custom runs.
What clown luggage looks like

Clown luggage · PEAK Wiki (CC BY-SA 4.0)
Very big, rare and colourful, with a clown face. It is easy to tell apart from the other luggage types, but it is often tucked into the same nooks as ordinary luggage, so it pays to know where to look.
What is inside
Clown luggage always holds six items. Everything except balloons and balloon bunches is thrown out when it opens.
| Item | Chance per box (approx.) |
|---|---|
| Yellow Berrynana Peel | 90% |
| Balloon | 56% |
| Bugle | 56% |
| Parasol | 56% |
| Big Lollipop | 45% |
| Dynamite | 45% |
| Balloon Bunch | 21% |
| Rocketpack | 21% |
| Scout Cannon | 21% |
The Parasol is worth keeping for the Mesa sun, and the balloons count toward the Aeronautics badge (six balloons equipped, a bunch counts as three). The dangerous combination is a Berrynana peel landing next to lit dynamite.
Opening one safely
Peels are by far the most common item: a box holds almost two of them on average, and they land around your feet. Dynamite shows up in nearly half of all boxes, and dynamite that comes out of luggage is already lit. It explodes five seconds later, dealing up to 27.5 Injury to anyone within about 9.6 metres, and another 25 to whoever is holding it.
A safe routine looks like this:
- Stand on flat, open ground with room to back away, never on a ledge above a long drop.
- Ask teammates to wait a few metres back before you open it.
- Open it, then look for a fuse before you look at the loot. If there is dynamite, either retreat past the 10-metre mark or grab it and throw it away from the group.
- Step around the peels instead of over them, and only then collect the Parasol, Rocketpack or Scout Cannon.
Of the loot, the Scout Cannon is worth carrying on a Mesa day for the Daredevil badge (shoot yourself across the Mesa canyon), and the Parasol makes the Cool Cucumber badge (never above 10% Heat in the Mesa) much easier.
How many spawn per island
Clown luggage was added in patch 2.0.a. Counting every island in the current pool:
| Clown luggage per island | |
|---|---|
| Average | 3.1 |
| Fewest | 0 |
| Most | 10 |
| Islands with at least 2 | 174 of 208 |
| Islands with at least 3 | 115 of 208 |
The badge is possible on 174 of 208 days. On 115 of them there is a spare box. On the best days there are enough for several players to earn it in the same run.
Where they usually are
Average clown luggage per region when it appears:
| Region | Average |
|---|---|
| Mesa | 1.4 |
| The Kiln | 1.1 |
| The Citadel | 1.0 |
| Alpine | 0.7 |
| Tropics | 0.6 |
| Gloom | 0.4 |
| Roots | 0.3 |
| Shore | 0.2 |
| Caldera | 0.1 |
Mesa days are the best bet, and the top of the island (the Kiln or the Citadel) often adds one more before the Peak.
Fastest route to the badge
- Check today’s count first. Today’s clown luggage locations list every box by region. If the island has fewer than two, skip the attempt and come back after the next reset.
- Pick the two closest to your route. Clown boxes tend to cluster in the Mesa and the final tower, so a plan of “one in region three, one at the top” usually works.
- Open them yourself. Teammates can carry the loot, but the opener gets the progress.
- Mind the explosion. Step back after opening, and do not open it on a narrow ledge.
Using the daily pages
The clown luggage page is a list grouped by region; tap a row and the full-screen map opens on that box. If you only care about one region, the region pages such as today’s Mesa or today’s Citadel show the clown luggage together with everything else there. Both refresh at the 17:00 UTC reset, so a plan made in the afternoon (UTC) can be stale by the evening.
Before the run, note which boxes sit near campfires or on the obvious climbing line. A long detour costs stamina and daylight the group may need.
Solo vs group
- Solo: you need two boxes on the route and you open both. On a day with exactly two, take the first one you can reach, because there is no spare if you skip one.
- Duo or trio: decide who is going for the badge before you leave the Shore. With three or more boxes, the spare can go to a second player in the same run.
- Full lobby: on the best days (up to 10 boxes) several players can each earn it, but only if you share the boxes out on purpose. Opening a box “just to see what’s inside” can cost a teammate the badge.
Why the badge did not pop
| Problem | What happened | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| A teammate opened the box | Progress goes to the opener only | Agree on one opener before the run |
| Custom run | No badges in custom runs | Play a normal expedition |
| Only one box on the island | 34 of 208 islands have fewer than two | Check the count first and wait for the reset |
| The box vanished as you got close | It was a Mesa mirage, not luggage | Ping a box before walking to it |
| Two boxes, different expeditions | Both must be opened in a single run | Open both before the Peak |
In the Citadel, also watch for the luggage trap, a fake regular luggage that releases sleeping gas when you open it in a hurry.
For other badges you can pick up on the same run, see the full badge list.
